Scissors and Shears

Forged shears held together by a screw, so they are tightened and reground instead of replaced.

Cheap scissors are stamped from sheet and riveted shut, which means the blades cannot be tightened when they loosen and cannot be reground when they dull. Forged shears are the opposite: the steel is hot forged to shape, the pivot is a screw, and the edges are ground rather than pressed. That turns a pair of scissors into something a sharpener services for decades, which is why the dressmaking ones get handed down and the drawer ones get thrown out every two years.
