Dinnerware

Vitrified ceramic sold a piece at a time, in colours kept in production for decades.

A dinner set is the one thing in a kitchen that gets broken rather than worn out, so the question is not how tough a plate is but whether the maker will still sell you that plate in ten years. Open stock is the answer: pieces sold singly, in glazes kept in production for decades, from potteries that have not changed the shape. Fully vitrified clay is glass the whole way through, so a chip does not go soft, and a good glaze does not craze under a daily dishwasher.
